About Mia

Mia graduated from the Rietveld Academie in type design — a field that trains you to see in a very particular way. Three of her typefaces are currently in commercial use, which is not a small thing. She approaches everything the way she approaches a design brief: with precision, a high standard for what counts as finished, and the conviction that the details are exactly what matter. She is Amsterdam in a way that is specific to people who have cycled this city in every season and stopped being a tourist in it a long time ago. She knows which events are worth attending and which are not, which restaurants have slipped and which have quietly gotten very good. She is the kind of company that makes you better at being in a city. At events she is genuinely comfortable — she knows how rooms work, how people move through them, what makes an evening land. Dutch, English, and German spoken with equal fluency. She does not try to impress, which is itself impressive, and she has a way of making the people she is with feel sharp and interesting. That is not an accident.
