About Amara

Amara grew up in Brussels in a Senegalese family, which means she had two complete social educations running simultaneously. From her family she inherited teranga — the Senegalese art of hospitality that makes every person feel genuinely welcome, not politely tolerated. From Brussels she learned the subtler social registers of a capital city that runs on discretion and institutional awareness. She studied development economics at ULB and now works at a Brussels think tank focused on Africa-EU relations. She understands how power moves between institutions, and she moves through those environments as a natural insider. At a diplomatic reception or a ministerial dinner, she knows who matters and why — and she navigates it without performing. Travel with Amara is something different. She is the companion who makes the unfamiliar feel navigable and the familiar feel new. Whether it is a first-class cabin, a boutique hotel in Paris, or a conference in Geneva, she brings an ease and warmth that turns a trip into an experience. She is discreet by nature, curious by training, and genuinely good company in any time zone.

Africa-EU dinner — she bridged the gap perfectly

Amara accompanied me for a dinner with Brussels think tank figures and West African partners. She moved between the two groups with complete ease — understanding the EU institutional language and the African diplomatic context simultaneously. The evening produced results that I had not expected going in.

French-Senegalese warmth in Brussels — rare combination

Amara's French has the Brussels precision combined with a warmth that is unmistakably West African. The dinner was excellent and the conversation ranged from Senegalese music to EU development policy with equal ease. I came away from Brussels knowing considerably more about both than when I arrived.

Brussels evening — she made the city feel different

Amara showed me Brussels from a perspective I hadn't considered — the African quarter, the specific way that Senegalese culture has shaped Ixelles, the relationship between Brussels's African communities and the EU institutions. The dinner was excellent. Very warm company.
