She came to Amsterdam to work in sustainable logistics consulting and has built a life here that suits her: she knows the city well but still sees it clearly. Black-tie dinner or canal boat, she is the same person either way. There is something deeply restful about being with someone who has no agenda other than enjoying the evening. Freya is a genuine literary person rather than someone who reads for appearances. She recommended three books during the evening that were exactly right for what I was interested in — two Scandinavian crime novels and a Dutch literary novel — and had specific reasons for each recommendation.
